The Basics
Our homework packets are designed to review and enrich students’ learning experiences in school. As such, daily attention to homework will improve student achievement. Each packet will have a newsletter, homework check-off sheet, a math page, handwriting page, and home-connection word study instructions. If you ever have questions about homework, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Homework Club
At Amelia Earhart we have a homework club that meets at 7:30 am. If you are interested in enrolling your child in this program and would like more information, please contact me or the front office.
Why Have Word Activities?
Completing literacy activities at home each day will help your child retain more information and become expert and working with words! It is a wonderful reinforcement of what we do in class. Please do what you can to encourage positive interactions with literature.
We will generate a spelling list at school where students can share ideas and ask questions about words they tried during the week.
Having students thinking about words and how they work will help them think more critically and improve decoding (reading) and writing skills.
READING!
I have always told my students the one of the best gifts they can ever receive is the gift of reading! Reading opens the doors to learning. If students can read, they can learn anything they want to!
I hope you use our “Take Home Book” Program to help support your child’s reading this year.
Please encourage your child to read each night for 20-30 minutes. Students who read 50 hours before May become High Flyers and get a fabulous trip to the movies. Students who read 100 hours are in the Doubles Club and get to go to Classic skating. In order to earn these rewards, students must turn in reading calendars at the end of each month. These rewards are exciting, but the biggest reward of all is opening the gate to knowledge!
Let’s all be High Flyers together this year!
